Jeremy Irons who rebooted the role of “Alfred” Batman’s iconic butler ( and much more ) recently sat down with Daily Mail and discussed the criticism of Batman V Superman . Jeremy Irons said Batman V Superman was overstuffed as well as deserving of the bashing it got from critics.
Batman V Superman (as most people know by now) was received extremely poorly from critics and also very mixed from fans. When asked about his thoughts on the negative criticism of Batman V Superman, Jeremy Irons stated:
‘Deservedly so. I mean it took £800 million, so the kicking didn’t matter but it was sort of overstuffed…
‘It was very muddled. I think the next one will be simpler. The script is certainly a lot smaller, it’s more linear…
‘I’m tied into The Batman at the minute [the next instalment, Justice League Part One, is due next year], which is nice because it’s a bit of income…
The “over-stuffing” and confusing scene cuts were one of the main complaints of Batman V Superman as many blatantly did not understand certain parts of the movie.
While as Jeremy Irons stated, the movie did not hurt box office wise ( I mean how could it with Wonder Woman and Batman returning to the screen ) he states the movie did deserve at least some of the harsh criticism.
Many would blame Zach Snyder for making a superhero movie much more complex than one should have been.
Whatever your opinion may be, will you be happier with a more linear and less “muddled” storyline for the first Justice League movie? Or would you prefer the same type of non-linear ‘Watchmen’ type of storytelling that Zach Snyder likes to implement?
P.S. It is also interesting to note that Jeremy Irons referenced The Batman which is supposed to be Ben Affleck’s first solo Batman movie debut. Does his reference mean that “The Batman” is the official title?
